From a young age, Adele discovered a love for reading and writing—a passion that has guided her work in empowering children and young people through storytelling, creativity, and literacy. She shares how she started Uyavula with just two children and a handful of books, the growth of the project, and how it has inspired volunteers and transformed communities. After moving to Pretoria, she took her passion in a new direction with Write2BU, helping young people find their voice through creative writing.

About Adele:

Adele Botha has always had a heart for people, especially children growing up under difficult circumstances. As a teenager, she struggled to recognize her own talents, only realizing later that her greatest gift is caring for others—a calling she believes comes from God.

Guided by this passion, Adele has dedicated her life to creating opportunities for children through literacy and education. She is the co-founder of the Uyavula Reading and Writing Project in Cape Town, which started with just two children and a handful of books and has grown into a program impacting thousands of young lives. After moving to Pretoria, she continued her mission with Write2BU, helping young people find their voice through creative writing and storytelling.

Adele believes that literacy is a powerful tool for a brighter future and that showing love through education is one of the most meaningful ways to make a difference in the lives of children and communities.
